O is for the Olympics

As you should know the Olympics occurred recently. And as you should also know they were in Vancouver, and Canada got our first gold ever on home soil. Alexandre Bilodeau was the first to accomplish this task. We didn't just get one gold, we got 14, which is a record. There was a lot of focus on getting the first gold on home soil this year, and we spent so much money on the " I Believe" campaign.

The Olympics are one of my favourite things to watch of all time. One reason is that there are not nearly as many T.V. commercial breaks. Another reason is that there is the joy of watching your country hopefully do well. Thirdly is that there is a lot of not so popular sports which are really cool to see and learn them. Although people only want to watch the sports they like, i think it is so much fun to see different sports. Like the speed skating team pursuit, it is an amazing sport. Two teams start on the same place in the middle of the ice, except on different sides, and you try to chase each other. Whoever crosses the line fastest compared to the other team wins, but it's the last person that stops the time. I thought that was really cool.

Here is some back round information about the Olympics. The Olympic Games are an international multi-sporting event, held every four years. It is sub-divided into two sporting events - summer sporting events and winter sporting events. The first Olympics were in Athens, Greece in 1896. Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympics. A man named Heracles thought of the Olympics, he was from Greece.

LIFE LESSON: In the Olympics watch every sport that your home country is in, and as much more as you can.
